Don't want to use Uhaul. Haven't heard good things. What about POD? Anyone with personal experience. Is it expense? I don't want to sell everything and buy there. I've done that in the past and it's hassel. Any help or personal stories would be appreciated.

  1. I agree with you that U-Haul trucks can be a huge headache.  From documentaries I have watched, and personal experience, most of the rental trucks are the same - poorly maintained, and if you read the fine print if there is any kind of problem, they are responsible for nothing and you are responsible for everything.

I have moved many times, and in many different ways, and this is now my preferred way - not the cheapest, but certainly not the most expensive, and the best in my books - relatively hassle free:

I pack everything myself except for anything like a large screen TV, but I don't move it myself.  I find a couple of small local companies who do moves and get quotes from them and see what I can find out about them, and choose the one that seems the best.  What might really work for you is if you can find a small local company from Calgary that does moves to Toronto, but often goes back to Calgary light or empty.

Best of luck with the move.

  2. I don't know who said U-Haul was bad, I used U-Haul and it was pretty good, or even try a different truck rental company
