I'm moving to Australia from the U.S. soon;can I take some cosmetology or real estate courses there?

I will be moving there on a partner visa(my husband is Australian.)So I want to know if I can take a few basic courses to keep me busy while I'm waiting the 3-7 months for a work permit.Do I have to apply for a student visa as well?
