  1. In Heidelberg is many restaurant and clubs.

This city is so nice I like to go there often.

Buy some book about Heidelberg and search on the Web www.heidelberg.de. Good luck for your moving and have fun in Heidelberg.

They have a song here in Germany "Ich habe mein Herz in Heidelberg verloren" this mean, you get in love in Heidelberg. So who knows...

  2. I've never been, sorry. Guten Tag!

  3. Stay away from the Zepplin's

  4. I lived in Heidelberg from 92 till 98 then PCS'd home. My daughters Graduated from High school there, so I know a little bit about it. Heidelberg has many suburbs, really just little towns that all run into each other. When you first get there you'll prob. be at Patrick Henry Village, the US housing area. I think it has the only BOQ. If you'll be working at what used to be 5th Corps HQ, or the hospital( Nachrichten Kaserne) you'll be within walking distance of everything. Remember, mass transit is great there. Start off with the military clubs to make some GI friends that will help you. The hospital has The Recovery Room, and Patrick henry there's a restaurant, and Legends downstairs. Karaoke on Friday nights.

If you go to Legends for Karaoke do me a favor, Doyle is the guy that does the karaoke with his son Matt. Tell them Grumpy is alive and well and farming in Illinois. You're gonna love Heidelberg. If you work at the hospital email me and I'll tell you of some good German friends I worked with there. Have Fun. Wish I was there.

  5. SHUT THE h**l UP!?

    REALLY.

    i  just came from there.

    its AWESOME.

    I spent middle school there.

    Go downtown Heidelberg!

    its gorgeous!

    you will love it.

I lived in a small village called: NussLoch.

those were the best years of my life.

if you go to any resturant...an ordinary one:

    Order: Rumpsteak with garlic butter.

    and the Pomme Frites.(french fries)

    Man...lucky.

Oh and the christmas markets are the bomb!!!

Theres also a cool swimming place called:AquaDrome

And Check out the Bakerys...GoodStuff! I recommend Pretzel-Crossiants.

    Have fun!

  6. You are Lucky! With the US Army you do not have to worry about the German living permits and the rest of that system.

Since you will be living off base - you will get to experience 'Local Culture'. A few tips, Learn some German, but Heidelberg is used to GI Joe so almost everybody speaks English, but Germans like when Americans try to speak their wonderful langauge. Try going to restaurants that Germans go to and not the tourists and military(Menu will be in German, and they do not accept credit cards). Open a German banking account(the exchange is better), Visit German cities and towns like Saarbrucken, Marburg, Hamburg, and Dresden. Places that are not the typical 'The Sound of Music' tour routine(OK, if you like the movie than visit Salzburg, hey you may even run into one of the von Trapp Familie). Try buying some furniture at Ikea or another local store. Try installing your own kitchen - that is truely a German Cultural Experience. Go shoping at the out door markets for fresh produce(ok, the exchange rate is not the best for you right now, but you do get COLA???).

    Good Luck and have Fun!

And, like mentioned earlier, if you want more info just email me.

Will you be working for the US Military, or Contracting for an American Firm? Or, are you coming over to work for a German or large international firm? I ask this because this Will Make A BIG difference on how you live in Germany.

In the Heildelberg area there are a number of clubs and all kinds of restaurants. All depends on what your tastes are, what you are looking for, and maybe how old you are?

So, before I write you a travel guide you can email me if you want more specific info.

Your typical German will answer with all the 'Culture Stuff'(Heidelberg IS A beautiful city), and someone that was there with the US Military will answer with where to eat(places with menu in English), where to shop, where to get drunk, and of course where to find 'Happiness'....

Anyway, good luck with your move, and have a good time when you get here.

P:S. The song that is being mentioned translates better as 'I lost my heart in lovely Heidelberg', that can be understood as you have fallen in love, or you were unlucky in love.

  7. All I can say you are soooo lucky! I'm so jealous! lol You will love every minute there!
