  1. I am not local to the area Utrecht, Maarsen, and do not live in Amsterdam, but I have found places selling English beer, Belgian beer and Irish beer (always Guinness but often also Murphy's) in many smaller towns in the Netherlands.

In Amsterdam there are several English and Irish pubs, serving the tourists but also several mainly for the locals.

I have never ever seen an American pub in Europe but I have to admit that I have never searched near an army or navy base.

If you like ale, try some Belgian beers. There are very many different ones, so you best talk with the barman, come early the first time you visit a pub. Most people working in decent pubs will know what to sell you.

As for which pub to go to, ask your neighbours, do not tell them you do not care for Heineken, but tell them you would like to try different brands.

(Most people are not really fond of Heineken and Amstel, even less several of the cheap supermarket beers, but no Dutch person will appreciate it when their new foreign neighbour puts them down.)

I searched for pub Utrecht, I found several, many links to O'Leary's, Adelaarstraat 23 Utrecht, which also has an restaurant or at least serves food. Just outside the old town.
