Question:

I'm moving to Israel from the US later this year. Will my US HDTV be able to receive a TV signal there?

I understand there are different broadcasting formats--NTSC (US) and PAL (almost everywhere else)--but not sure whether an HDTV is more like a monitor which could receive any signal from a cable box, or if there would be problems with a US TV receiving a 50Hz input from an Israeli cable box.

  1. Depends on what part of Israel you move to. I am sure Jeruselum may have HDTV transmit cabability but there might not be that type of broadcast in the rural areas of Israel.

  2. HDTV is a broadcasting standard, just like NTSC and PAL, so if your TV supports HDTV you don't have to worry about receiving HDTV content.

Although - currently there's very few HD channels in Israel (only one movies/series channel available through YES), so I'd be more concerned about getting the standard channels.

  3. Israel will use a different terrestrial over-the-air HDTV format (DVB-T as used in most of Europe) than the US (ATSC).

Using an external video source (set-top-box/external tuner/bluray player/etc.) over an HDMI or component video cable the HDTV video formats are universal.

  4. NO , you TV is USA NTSC formats,Israel is PAL ,unless you TV is MUTI 21 systems, it can change world systems, but i don't think so, those TV main for USA local market will not, because is ADD cost. Also USA use 110 V ,Israel is 220 V, Mose TV is auto V, but some ,very few are not. Take note even from Cable Box , over there is only support PAL.because colour decode is also defence ,even plug in too HDMI from box, you TV screen is only display B/W line.
