  1. What Don said.

  2. I think that it depend on how you want to live in Paris. If you are a little "bourgeois" and afraid beacause people are lout then, you shouldn't live there.

I do have friends who are leaving there and never have any problem.

If you are young, want to have fun want to know paris whithout taking the metro, don't want to take a taxi when you are going out late, is a good place to be. Le marais is not far away from there...you can take a walk to le Louvre,le jardin des tuileries, notre-dame....

Not so many people knowing this, but in the middle of les halles, near the subway there is a police station, and a big one ;-)

  3. I have stayed in an apartment a few blocks from Les Halles on two trips.  Other than being hit on by guys lurking on the streets, I felt very comfortable in the area.  You might want to avoid rue St. Denis as that is a well-known prostitute hang out, plus there are lots of adult establishments on that street.

  4. I just moved to near Les Halles - and... love it:

centrally located, easy access to sites, entertainment, great food.  There are some street people milling around, but not excessive, and never for me to be concerned about my safety.

It very much depends on what you are looking for, what you need, where you need to go on daily basis, what you are comfortable with, what alternatives you are considering, and what time frame you are looking at.

I am happy with this location.

    Good luck! :)

  5. I personally don't like Les Halles, but then I'm old and uncool. The college-age bohemian types seem to dig it.

Pros: central location, easy access to public transportation, lots of shopping, lots of cafes and pubs

Cons: kinda trashy in places, few parks or green spaces, loud at night, lots of drunk pubgoers

Les Halles is safe enough if you stick to the streets where there are a lot of people. You get a lot of pickpockets and aggressive vagrants in the area. I wouldn't walk around it at night by myself.

  6. good during the day if you like extremely busy neighborhoods but can be dangerous at night.

sylvana i wish you the best in paris but please do be careful at night around the mall, not safe at all. don't want to scare you or anything, just a friendly, well-informed warning.

  7. Take care
