I want to be as close to the city as possible, but low price and safety are the most important things to me.

  1. I fyou are looking for a compromise between BEST and CHEAP and CLOSE, maybe try North Perth, Mt Lawley or Yokine.. None of these are the Best, the cheapest , or the closest, but hey- you're making it pretty tricky for us here! lol

PS: Not sure I agree with the comment about crime and train lines, especially considering Dalkeith, West Leederville, and Subiaco all lie on the perth-Freo train line and are some the safest/ most epensive suburbs in Perth!!!

PS: sorry, got Dalkeith mixed up with Daglish (which by the way is just as safe and upper-class as the former)

  2. If your looking to buy houses your probably in luck..

The market has really slowed down..

    House prices are dropping..

  3. The best suburb is probably Peppermint Grove and the cheapest would be Balga or somewhere in the Eastern suburbs.

Perth's real estate and rental quality is better but more expensive in the Western suburbs closer to the beach.

Peppermint Grove is set on the beautiful Swan River and you could find a cheap apartment in Victoria Park, which is also near the River and the causeway leading into the CBD.

You might be lucky enough to find somewhere with a view but if you want a house with a garden within 5 km of Perth City you would need at least $800 USD per week.

  4. Mt Lawley is good

  5. unfortunately low price and safety don't usually go hand in hand.  nowheres really cheap at the moment.  do you want a house, sharehouse, unit, townhouse?

in general i think there is more crime in suburbs closest to the train lines.  i'd also avoid living anywhere in the vicinity of homeswest housing-  its the government housing and is renowned for trouble.

alot of suburbs have a mixture of good and bad areas-  maybe if you could find a family orientated area in osborne park or balcatta that would be ok-  also how much do you want to pay?

(dalkeith isn't on the train line-  you may be right about subiaco and west leederville, i'm not sure but in general i think there is crime close to trainlines but i could be wrong or generalising)

  6. Another vote for Mt Lawley here, it's close to Perth and is relatively safe the last time I lived there... but I would invest in a locked mailbox or a PO box because when I lived there (until 2005) I had a lot of problem with people stealing my mail.

  7. Gee best and cheapest that would be an oxymoron would it not ?
