I've have friends in Oceanside that we are trying to stay somewhat close to. I live in Columbus, OH as of right now and love my location, but need a change. My daughter's school, library and my gym are located a few blocks from each other. Our house is next to the market and my school is South of us about 5 min, I usually ride my bike. I would love to find this kind of connivance in our new area.

I'm looking for an area/town that is more on the hippie go green side of things, with culture. I want something safe for my daughter, but fun and laid back for her 25 yr. old single mother, I'm not into clubs but more local music pubs.

Both my daughter and I want something close to the beach/boardwalk and train, also a park/trail of some sort close by would be nice. Our dog would appreciate the outdoor stuff too.

Soo the areas I been looking at if anyone can give a yea or nye are Solana, Encinitas, Carlsbad, and Oceanside. Thanks !!

  1. you are kind of asking for a lot. it may be hard to find these accommodations.

  2. Ocean Beach may be the closest thing you ask for.  Hippish, though there are bars and clubs.  There is also a dog beach.  It is a bit of a hassel by public transpo however. Other than that try Solana Beach as well.  More expensive, but has busses and a train.

  3. The areas your looking at are good.

Oceanside; Carlsbad; Leucadia; Encinitas; Cardiff and Solana Beach will all fit your wants and needs.

Just remember to stay west of the 5 freeway

  4. Solana Beach and Encinitas (Leucadia, Cardiff-by-the-Sea) are both great locations with lots of young families; trails (Solana Beach has the Coastal Rail Trail); and shopping (101, Cedros Design Center).  There's a great park for kids in Encinitas (Cottonwood Creek) and you can bring your leashed dog.  Your dog will also love Dog Beach in Del Mar which is just south of Solana Beach.

Both places are a little expensive so you should rent for a few months until you can find the right place for you.

  5. Ocean Beach, or Imperial Beach.  Maybe even Chula Vista, it's still really close to the ocean, and a little bit cheaper than those other areas.
