I would also need to know approx. what the Import fees would be and how much registration is.

If I do register it there does it become a mexican vehicle now or will it always remain an american car. Would it make a difference insurance wise?

I will be living most of the year in Los Barriles and will not bring the truck back to the states. I heard it can be a pain to deal with the Mexican DMV. Any insight on the above would be apprieciated! If you choice to you can also e-mail me @ hansinator1@yahoo.com

  1. I retired in Acapulco and thought about bringing my car. I just wouldnt do it. Aint worth the hassle. Cars are plentiful and cheap so why bother with all the import red tape.

I never did bring my car and glad I didnt. I got a cheap motorscooter thats much more fun. Groceries = taxi.

  2. You do not need to officially import your vehicle into the Baja.

The Baja is exempt from the vehicle policies that apply to the rest of Mexico as well are the border towns.

You can leave it there and return with new stickers or plates.

This applies to Canadian and Americans.

    You can check out lewisandlewisinsurance.com

I think you can get full coverage for a truck that old

As you know you can only stay for a max of 180 days on an FMT.

You will HAVE to exit the country for a day and you can return and do that indefinitely

Used cars are not cheap in Mexico.  They are thee times more than in the U.S.A

  3. NO! DONT IMPORT IT, NATIONALIZE IT, ITS GOING TO WORTH MORE! you can almost sell it for the double you payed for it.

Trust me, I live in Baja Califiornia North, and my dad selled a nationalized 90`Pickup  few years a go for $4500 to a guy from Baja South.

Please, dont nationalize it yourself, save the frustration, it sucks to deal with the DMV, you better pay to an import agency, they are many in Tijuana, but you will have to wait an entire day or 2 ok? trust me, is for the best.
