Question:

I'm moving to Tampa and might want to be a trucker

I hear most people go to trucking schools, but some people get jobs with only taking the test, especially if places are desperate. How likely am I to find a trucking job without going to a school, particularly in the Tampa area?

  1. Like the guys say, companies will often sponsor school training.

It might be easy to get a smaller say, bread driving van/trucker job without going to school, but if you drive a truck over 26,000 lbs, you will need a trucker's license.

Be aware though, that some companies will want you to load/unload the truck.. I don't know if your paws are made for that.

  2. Companies give u free training and its the same as going to a trucking school, the only difference is that u don't have to pay for ur training but I'm pretty sure companies who do this make u sign a contract that states u will work for them for a certain time. U can't take the test without knowing the basics, specially the truck inspection most people fail on it.

  3. Some companies will provide 'free training' which is trucking school.  You need to get trained or go to trucking school because driving a big rig is a lot different than driving a consumer truck.
