  1. I suggest you take a TEFL course.  Journeyeast.org offers a good balance between method and culture.  You should also have a four year degree, and NEVER go there unless you have a z work type visa.

I've been involved in English Teaching in China for many years.  Below are some excellent resources for you.

  2. Walk before you run...

  3. Always remember anything you write or say will be examined by everyone. Like if you send an e-mail to a school they will grade your English. Regards,

  4. An "english experd" like you should better stay at home,China doesn't need such people.

    Well said Dan.

  5. Hi,

Congrats on the new job! Your going to love China. Its going to be a culture shock to you at first but after a month or so your going to be ok.

  6. Before  you go to China (it's a proper noun so use a capital letter), maybe you should bone up on run-on sentences.  Put a period after "China" and start a new sentence.

"Customs" is plural so you need a plural verb (are there any customs?) and also for "people" (is there experd ppl?).  The word "people" is plural in the context of your usage.

    It's "expert" not "experd".

There is no need to contract "people" into "ppl".  People learning English don't understand things like that.

One of the customs to which you should become accustomed is the fact that Chinese people (I lived in Taiwan and taught English there for four years) make a huge investment in money, effort, and time, to learn English.

You owe them your best work.

  7. Respect your students, that's the most important thing because I know for a fact, some of the English teachers in China are so disrespectful towards the students, but because it is in China, the profession in teaching is highly respected, the students cannot do anything about it. So please love your students and be nice to them.

  8. Uhh...are you sure you're going there to teach english?

  9. You need a four year degree to teach English in China. You also need to have good English.

Please tell me what "experd ppl" means.
