I'm moving to the Blue Mountains (NSW, Australia), what are the dodgy areas?

I'm soon to move to the Blue Mountains, to the sydney end (SPringwood, Faulconbridge, Hazelbrook, Glenbrook, etc), and I don't know anyone there. I'm wondering whether any locals could give me the low down on the safest and nicest towns or areas to live, as I have two little kids to enrol in school, and want to safeguard them from unnecessary probs. Looking for a nice community, with not too much crime.

Does anybody have any answers for me?

  1. i live in the Penrith area, and its a nice place,we are at the foot of the blue mtns and have the beautiful river and the Penrith Lakes Scheme, also big westfield shopping centres and another nepean square(plaza) with lots of shops.I also lived up at Glenbrook many years ago,i have family live at Blaxland,Mt Riverview and Winmalee, its very nice up the mountains too. There are many schools to choose from, you can google any school that may be of interest to you,so you can have a look at is what is to offer.Feel free to email me if you want to chat about anything at all.i have 2 primary school age kids,so i totally understand what you are worried about! cheers :)

  2. I don't know the answer but I will star this question to let one of my contact know. She lives in that area. She will be able to answer your question.

    Cheers

  3. hi i have good friends who live at faulconbridge and as far as I'm aware there are no problems around there =)

  4. Springwood and Katoomba are the dodgy parts of the mountains.

  5. Stay away from Dobry Lane, its the worst part of Australia.

  6. I live in Penrith at the foothills of the mountains and I'm not aware of any major problems in the Blue Mountains. They are sufficiently removed from the main Sydney area to avoid major crime problems, and most of the towns are fairly small. Most places with a bad reputation in the greater Sydney area are further in, like Mt Druitt, Blacktown, etc.

As per any area, I expect it is best to live a reasonable distance from loacl pubs and train stations as these always tend to be trouble spots especially late at night.
