I currently live in the U.S. I don't know a soul in australia. I need some pointers of stuff to do, and how to get around.

  1. I don't mean to generalise, but don't go on about how you think everythings much better in the US, and don't bang on about how much freedom and democracy you think the US has. It pisses Australians off, and has lead to Americans having a bad name.

Of course, most Australians will be fine with you, and you being American won't be a problem at all. However, shouting about how great the US is, is a sure way of starting off on the wrong foot. Just a warning.

  2. Im guessing you will either be attending bond or griffith for college...

with that, you will find other people from the U.S which will make your trip somewhat easier.

Everyone here is quite open and social, and will probably ask you a million and one questions about where you are from in the u.s , and how you like it here.

On the coast, we are very much known for our nightlife, tourist attractions and beaches.

Surfers paradise - is the place for all clubs.

Pacific fair - is the big mall / shopping center we have here.

Surfside bus lines - is the buses that we have here

Robina train station - is the furtherest that you can go on the train from brisbane ( capital ) to the gold coast by train. It is also very close to BOND university and griffith.

    Our summers are very humid

    We are very laid back

but im sure that you will be fine, just remember to ask someone if something is concerning you as im sure it will be a pleasure for them to help!

Have fun here, i know i love it.

  3. Just to add to the answer above -

    We don't tip here.

Sometimes if we receive absolutely exceptional service we may tip but it's not the normal thing to do.

I'm sure you'll make many new friends, I hope you have a wonderful stay here. You'll love the Gold Coast I'm sure of that.

  4. They drive on the left.

Very nice people - don't hesitate to ask someone for directions. You'll soon make friends.

But, as with anywhere in the world, be aware of your surroundings and don't do stuff there that you wouldn't do at home!

Excellent transport from Brisbane airport to the GC, you can't get lost! Easy to get around on public transit.

Awesome beaches! Gonna but tough to focus on studies!  ;-)

You'll be fine! Don't worry about it!

    Good luck!
