Question:

I'm new at contacts...Any tips?

Ok, I just got contacts today and started looking them up online. I have two weeks disposables and it scared the living **** out of me that just ONE small harmless germ or virus could make you go blind for good. What do YOU do when you use your contacts? How do you disinfect them? I read that the saline itself doesn't do anything...just something to rinse them off. So I'm wondering what everyone does themselves to prevent this, and how to clean them, etc. Help? ^^;

  1. I've had two-week disposable contacts since 8th grade, and I'm now a junior in college (so thats what, 7-8 years?).  I've had little to no problems (knock-on-wood) just by changing them regularly and changing the solution daily.  Just dryness here and there is all I ever get, and thats usually after I've slept with them in or have had them in for long periods of time, several days in a row.

    I wouldn't panic about it if you forget to change the solution, or go over the two-week limit.  I've done this plenty of times.  Honestly, just go over any concerns you have with your eye doctor (contrary to popular belief, doctors usually DO know  what they're talking about, and are definitely more knowledgeable than your average google result).

    I would advise having a back-up pair of glasses just in case your eyes get dry one day, or you happen to lose a lens (I've had them fall out a few times, again usually when my eyes are dry).  And make sure you keep up with the regular eye-doctor visits (I think once a year is standard, at least thats how often I go).

  2. Just rub the lenses each side for about 10sec and soak it for about 4 hrs before using.
