I'm new to car audio, but want a system that will deliver good bass?

Yo, im 17, live in england and recently got a honda civic for my first car. It has not been modded in any way, so obviously the sound system is kinda rubbish :P

I would really like to get some killer bass, so i was thinking of getting a subwoofer/amp. But what other types of speekers (e.g. coaxials, tweeters etc etc) would i need to get my sound system sounding good? (coz obviously the subwoofer alone will not be able to emit all the sounds- or frequencies- in a song)

Thank you in advance for any help, much appreciated. Sorry if i sound a bit confusing, coz im totally new to this whole car audio thing, so any extra info would also be appreciated thank you :)

  1. Questions like these are sometimes difficult to answer.Everyone has different taste as far as what sounds good.

There are many "Mainstream" brands out there that are average to good quality.Example of decent "mainstream" brands would be Kicker,Rockford,Polk,Jl Audio,JBL,pioneer, sony,Alpine and many more.

All of them have their ups and down.....Now...There are other brands that DO NOT fall under the "mainstream" category. These brand are what I call "high end" audio. Some of these brands include Focal,CDT,Boston Acoustics,Elemental Designs,Image Dynamic ,RE

First you need to decide if you want sound quality or just some added sound.

ANY of the mainstream brands will do for a simple upgrade....But If you want TRUE sound then go with any of the high end brands mentioned.

Being that your are in european area,I highly recommend CDT audio for door replacement speakers. They have several different lines....they have less expensive lines as well as VERY expensive lines.Even there low line sound phenominal. They EVEN have speakers that are specifically designed for Hondas.Second option would be focal or Boston acoustics.

Now as for subwoofers,You can actually go mainstream or high end.....What will really matter is your amp and your CD/head unit(Go with alpine Deck/radio)

When choosing an amp,you want a amp that is CEA-2006 compliant. You want to match RMS wattage of the subs...NOT PEAK OR MAX!! An Example would be if you have 2 subs that are 300 watts RMS each, then you add them together to get a total of 600 watts RMS.....You would want a amp thats close to or exactly 600 watts RMS.

Thats about as far as I can help you.Ive given you brand options,so now you will have to get further help from a local installer/dealer.If you want to know what size speakers you have, then goto http://www.crutchfield.com/S-SIAwwMFQCm4...  and click on Gps & Acessories and the click "outfit my car" and go from there....good luck.

Remember....you can go mainstream and be like everyone else...or you can be the one that stands out ;)(go high end!!)

  2. Componet speakers are muchbetter that coaxial speakers so i would start with some of those.  The coaxial speakers put the tweeter in front of the woofer on the speaker which messes up the sound.  But on the component the tweeter is placed somewhere else and you get good clean sound out of the woofer.  Crutchfield.com has a huge glossary of definitions and things of that sort that really help when your new to this buisness.  Have a good one and good luck!  Car audio is a blast!

  3. what you want is a even transfer of sound you could turn the car into a sub box very easily

first off remove the carpet and replace the interior with sound dedading material this will prevent road noise and less the effect of the speakers on your neighbors etc neally not nessiary buy a nice upgrade

throw two subs rated at 1200 or more with twin mono 1000 watt subs wired through a capasitior

as for speakers you have a lot of aftrmarket choices but you should aim at between 4to6 4in 1 speakers(the tweeter is built in)at a safe wattage

get a deck that is going to be up to date for at least 3 years xm/hd, bluetooth, input jacks3.5mm and usb are becoming the norm

a good sound system your looking around 2k but you can get combo deals etc and buying the stuff online and installing it yourself can save you some cash also

    goodluck
