I'm new to homeschooling and would like to know if there are any get together groups in my area and what they're information is. I live in southeast idaho and although it isn't as populated as arizona i know there are alot of homeschooling families. I just need to search them out. I believe that socializing is important for children. any information would be great! thanks

  1. First, start with your state's HS'ing association(s).  They should have a list of local groups.

Next, search on Yahoo Groups for HS'ing groups in your area.  Search for "homeschool Idaho" first, then "homeschool ____ [city/town/region".  You should be able to find some.  Through the groups, you can then find out about local HS'ing activities.

  2. I don't know of any groups in your area (I'm in East Texas), but I feel sure you will meet up with other homeschoolers in time. My daughter-in-law in Glen Rose TX homeschools my two grandchildren and has created a wonderful group just by meeting other homeschoolers at the kids' soccer games, dance, even Burger King, etc.

My other daughter-in-law is in a homeschool group in Haughton Louisiana, where she homeschools my other two grandchildren.

All my grandchildren are learning and thriving, and doing very well in school, testing above their level in all subjects. They enjoy field trips, get-togethers, library day, fossil rim, sci-port, sports, dance, parties, play dates, and meet lots of people. Don't let the nay-sayers bring you down about a lack of socialization. Homeschooling done right is the best thing in the world for kids, and I want to give you kudos for taking that route.

The only socialization problems I know of are found in public schools. They're learning how to smoke, drink, do drugs, cheat, lie, fight, have s*x, make babies, and are learning absolutely nothing about morals.
