  1. Yes the skiis need to be waxed every 2-3 days of use.  Go to a Goodwill store and buy an old electric iron, use canning wax for the base.  Heat the iron hot enough that the wax melts when applied to the bottom of the iron, then dribble the wax on the ski base in an "S" pattern, then iron the drops smooth in a quick pass over the base. Do not leave the iron in one place on the ski base.  Make the pass quickly, and smooth the wax to a thin film. Scrape the wax to a thin film and be certain the edges are clear of all wax.  It will take several times before the base is saturated and you can enjoy a smooth ride on the skiis.  If you do a webb search on ski tuning, you will get lots of information on how to do what. Remember these websites are trying to sell their equipment to you.   Also learn to sharpen your edges, but take the skiis to a shop once a season for a complete tune up, edges, binding check, and hot wax.

  2. Yes, but for the first couple of times you should be fine because ski's come factory waxed. I rode my K2 Fujatives for a full year after I got them without waxing and they were fine, maybe a little iffy towards the end of the season.

However, if you are unsure of how to wax or maintain your edges etc. I highly recommend you take them to a shop so

    a) you don't end up damaging your equipment by accident,

    b) you don't end up hurting yourself due to the damage that has been done to your equipment and has been overlooked.

Once you're confident in your abilities however, its pretty fun to do it yourself too.

  3. Also, make sure to get them adjusted for your weight!

  4. yeah, they should always be freshly waxed, if you don't know how they do it at most ski shops for you

  5. Yeah, you should wax them.  If they are brand new, they wont have any wax on the base.  put on a layer of base wax and dont scrape it off.  the wax will protect the bases during the summer.  before you go skiing next winter make sure you scrape the wax off.  you should wax around every 4 days of skiing or when you see the bases turning white.

  6. Yes. Take them in to get professionally tuned otherwise you will stick to the mountain & your edges won't be sharp enough to make turns if you do start moving.
