Question:

I'm no longer self-employed in the UK and don't live there since 3 years. How do I stop paying Tax Return??

I have left the UK in 2005 (came back to my country), and only now received from a friend that still lives there an old penalty letter that the "HM Revenue & Customs" have sent me because I haven't sent my tax returns for year ended 2007.

I have already canceled paying my National Insurance Contributions (2 years ago) and thought it means I officially stop being a self-employed and no longer need to send tax-returns. Isn't it?

Could someone help me understand how it works?? How can I cancel this "Tax return" thing?? It seems very confusing.

Many thanks!

  1. You can't cancel a tax return once it is issued - all you can do is to fill it in. As you will have no UK earnings to declare, it will just be a question of signing it. Put a note on the back to say you left the Uk on x*x and they should then stop sending returns to you.
