Since I was little, I've always wanted to play sports, but couldn't really be properly taught. I didn't attend middle school, I was homeschooled those years, and middle school is when you enroll in those sports to learn how to play them, I was robbed of that chance. I am wanting to become a better swimmer, one of the many problems, I don't have any place I can swim, and I just suck because I'm not a sportsy person. I can't run for very long, I can't dive, I can't jump into the water without holding my nose, and I don't really have a lot of self confidence. To try and get into shape, I already walk/sometimes jog, but I know that this is not enough (I'm also pretty strong, just don't have good mucsle control) Is there any suggestions that could help me get into shape? Or any good exercises for swimming?

I know I suck and all, but I really wanna learn. I've only gotta a couple years of high school, and I don't wanna go through it not being able to do what I've always wanted to do.

  1. Be positive about your self, get on a local team, ask the coach to help you out, when you join the team you will make alot friends, and a couple of your friends can help you with your swimming, strokes.

what you are doing exercise wise is really good, you need to be in shape to swim in meets.

  2. It really just takes practice to become a good swimmer. Your stamina and endurance build up as you get more in shape. Work on your swimming technique to make your stroke more efficient so you don't waste as much energy.

If you do want to pursue your swimming, I suggest joining a club swimming environment. There are usually different levels that accommodate for the person's skill. Coaches will help you get better and the practice will pay off in the end!

  3. Something you've always wanted to do? What are you waiting for? Join a club -- swimming, running, SOMETHING. A club will give you the supervision and companionship that you've been missing.

I think you are putting too much emphasis on PE classes. Sorry to all the PE teachers out there, but I think many PE classes turn as many kids AWAY from athletics as encourage them. I don't think you've missed that much.

For example, I only took a PE class one of my 3 years on junior high, and now I do triathlons. I don't do the things I remember from PE -- gymnastics, dodge ball, softball -- and I don't miss them!

My advice is to stop analyzing and start doing. Don't worry about getting into shape before you start -- START NOW.
