I am not going to eat for a week for a school project that I chose. I am writing a paper and I decided to do this, it was not asked of me.

Anyways, I want to know what I need to drink to make sure that I will have the energy to keep going to school and work for the week. I know its only a week but I am used to eating 3 meals a day plus snacks through out the day. I just don't want to feel sick or be real tired during this.

  1. You can drink ALOT of water.

    And take vitamins.

And just make sure to sleep alot!

  2. Don't do that, you can die you idiot.

  3. ok well you have a stupid teacher that would allow for this to happen. why do you think they call it a 40 HOUR STARVE. because it is not good at all for the body to go with out food for soo long. body needs iron fats oils sugars ect. i really think you should talk to a doc let them explain what your doin to your body. and what about your mum and dad. how u gonna hide something like that from them im sure thay have more brains to know how bad this is.

if you watch the news you will see how people are when they go with out food for 2 days let alone a week.

Have a long hard look at your self.

have some respect for your body

  4. Your body might get so hungry it will start eating parts of you organs. I wouldn't do it if I were u...

there are so many projects to choose from why this one?

  5. Think again, don't do it!! Seriously it way too unhealthy to consider, you will feel sick and tired there is no way round it! If you are determined to do it then drink water, some fruit juice, but seriously this is too unhealthy for a week, unless you are under medical supervision. You are only young if you at school and your energy requirements are high and cannot be met. You need protein and i cannot think how you will be able to get that from a drink. Maybe do a couple of days (again not recommended) or eat at least one meal a day which includes protein, carbs and fat, take a multivitamin supplement.

  6. I urge you not to do this, but if you insist, at least consult with your doctor first.  To not do so is nothing short of irresponsible.  Yes, we can survive a long time with water and no food, but not without costs and risks.

Depending on your health, you could suffer from cardiac arrest.  Your body will do what it takes to see that it (as an organism) survives.  Unnecessary systems will be neglected or shut-down to insure the systems needed to live get what they need.

This means your BRAIN.  It is not required for your body to live.  Why do you think so many mal-nourished people suffer from brain damage.

I have 2 college-age children, and I'm so pissed right now that I don't know what to say.  Go see your doctor before you do this!!!

  7. before starting this rather interesting project of yours, make sure you put on some weight and eat like properly and take multivitamin and omega oil tablets!!

Under starvation, after your glycogen stores get depleted, your body starts burning fats for fuel...its a normal phenomenon, wherein your body converts fat into ketones which could be used for energy in your body. This is seen in animals that undergo hibernation in winter, or in people who try follow low carb diets

If you're trying to lose weight, then according to a study i'd read, following a diet rich in fats and very low in carbohydrates (like the macademia diet, since macademia nuts are 70% fats)  lost more weight than people who'd starved for the same period of time

make sure you drink the nessesary amount of water, not more and not less. Since water is a solvent, it might deplete your body off some important water soluble nutrients when the extra water is excreted in your urine.

I personally think a week is a long period of time...why not try it for a shorter period.

The other things you should think about are your digestive system, which has an automatic pacemaker that forces the stomach to release acids...you might end up with acidity and probably ulcers. Because your stomach is protected against the acid it produces by a mucus layer, which might not be produced as much if your stomach has no food in it. Another thing is, you are in a stage of growth (since you're still atschool you wouldn't be older than i would say 19??!!). Your growth is controlled by many things, some of which are food and hormones. If you undergo a long period of starvation, which is an absolutely abnormal thing for your body, your hormones might go chaotic!! I'm scared you might end up with a growth retardation.

Also, if you don't have atleast fats or proteins, you body will start burning your proteins for energy (especially if you're thin!!)...you wouln't want to lose the muscles you have, would you??

If you do do (ok that sounds funny..dodo!!) this project, then when you end it, take in foods slowly...and start off with soft foods, prefferebly previously digested (baby food would be a good idea) and soups!! for your digestive enzymes and gut hormones would have reduced to a very low level...you have to slowly go back to your normal diet!!

again...think about what you're doing, mate!!...u might end up very sick!!

    hope this helps

P.S. Also, try to reduce your phisical activity...and give your brain priority for using the "limited" amount of energy you have!!

if you could do this under the supervision of a doctor, then do so!! you'll have to find someone who'd understand though!!

    have fun....but be careful!!

  8. uh i think u should eat i can't go 4 1 day least a week

  9. Juice, vitamins, milk and water.  milk will sit heavy on your stomach and   provide much needed protein.  I've done the "difficult to eat" after a break up thing and keeping all sorts of fluid and vitamins nearby combats the bodies urge to shut down.  In the hospital people are kept alive daily with nothing but fluids.  Its not as harsh as some people have tried to point out.  I understand what youre doing, be safe, and good luck!
