I'm not really liking my Bose AM-15. Is it just me?

I bought an Acoustimass 15 setup back in 2000. It's pretty much the AM-10 that is offered today except for the older style bass module.

Anyway, the acoustimass series of speakers have terrible bass. The bass module is not a subwoofer. Instead the satellites and the bass module try to reacreat the sound of a larger floorstanding speakers.

I actually had to buy a Velodyne CT-100 subwoofer for movies as the AM-15 wasn't cutting it.

Anyway, I listen to stereo music mostly and my plan is to drop the AM-15 and pick up a pair of floor standing speakers. What do you recommend I get. I have an Onkyo amp that is giving 70 watts per channel. I want to keep it under $800.

Which pair of stereo speakers has been known to blow the bose acoustimass speakers away?

Oh and is Bose sound all in our heads?

  1. Bose is renowned for mediocre performance at premium prices. Many, many other systems will beat Bose for less money (look for names like KEF, B&W, Totem, Distinctive Audio, Klipsch, Boston, Mirage, Paradigm, etc ....). You will actually find few if any legitimate reviews that recommend Bose.

See the link for a starting point, but really just Google with terms like "surround speaker reviews"

  2. The guy above is on the money. How does it go?

BOSE = Buy Other Sound Equipment?

I would have to say Bowers and Wilkins speakers are probably the best made brand on the planet in a performance to value ratio.

    But thats just my opinion.

    Good Luck
