”I'm not scared of responsibility”, Peter Sagan
Peter Sagan received a palpable boost of confidence after his spectacular performance in the 2012 season.
The cyclist has shown interest towards leading the side, Team Liquigas-Cannondale in the coming season and is optimistic to obtain fruitful results in the classics.
The Slovakian claimed the 2012 Tour de France green jersey from Mark Cavendish this year, after his heroic performance during the three-week race.
He claimed a total number of 421 UCI points and occupied the top point’s classifications spot, overcoming Andre Greipel of Team Lotto-Belisol with a convincing margin of 141 points.
Matthew Harley Goss of Team Orica-GreenEdge holds the third position with 268 points while Mark Cavendish, Edvald Boasson Hagen, Bradley Wiggins and Chris Froome of Team Sky securing the fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh position with 220, 160, 144 and 126
UCI points in the respective order.
The Slovakian also bagged multiple stages at the Tour of Oman, Tour of California, Tour de Suisse, and Tour de France along with a stage each at the Tirreno-Adriatico and the Three Days of De Panne 2012.
He finished first at the National Road Race Championships, second at the Gent-Wevelgem, third at the Amstel Gold Race, fourth at the Milan-San Remo and finished fifth at the Tour of Flanders 2012.
When asked about an added responsibility as a team leader, briefed to Cycling News HD,”I'm not scared of responsibility”.
“I'm still learning but I think I've earned my position. I'm not worried about being a team leader or being under pressure to get results”.
“They're the easy part of cycling. The hard part is actually winning, no?

“I'm sure we'll be good in 2013. Ivan Basso is a role model for us all and then Moreno Moser, Elia Viviani and Fabio Sabatini are pretty good in sprints. We can all get results”.
Exit of Vincenzo Nibali definitely hurt the team but it also opened room for Sagan to take on the responsibility and he is an ideal man for the job.
“It's a pity that Vincenzo left, because we get on really well, but I respect his decision and we've still got a strong team”.
Only time will tell, if the young Slovakian manages to continue his 2012 winning momentum in the season ahead to fill in for Nibali.
