  1. I try to go ahead and get into bed a couple hours before I want to fall asleep.  It takes a lot of pressure off when I know I can just lay there and watch TV.  When there's no pressure, it's easier to fall asleep.  If I lay down when I want to fall asleep, there's too much pressure to fall asleep and I can't.  Plus laying down an hour or two in advance makes me more tired.

  2. lie down and daydream

  3. Drink warm milk.  It releases the sleep horomone triptophan.  If you can't stomach warm milk, there's a product made by Hershey called Good Night Kisses (in chocolate) and Good Night Hugs (in white chocolate) designed with an added sleep aid made to work with the warm milk, yet it tastes like hot cocoa.  Also, try reading a book under a dim light, around 25 watt.  Too bright a light stimulates the brain and makes it harder to fall asleep.  Watching a black and white movie has the same effect, so try some I Love Lucy, The Addams Family, or anything on TVLand.  Give yourself time to wind down before laying down.  If none of this works, there's low dose over the counter sleep aids.  As a last resort, a prescribed sleep aid might be needed.  Hope all goes well, and happy dreaming!
