I'm not sure what's going on with my best friend?

I've known my best friend for 10 years. i've been over to her house many times, and usually see her dad while carpooling, or while over there. recently, her sister got an expensive surgery, and its been really difficult for them because the sister needs help doing a lot of things because of her surgery.

anyway, i kind of suspect that her dad left their family, but i am kind of confused because we talk about EVERYTHING. we don't keep many secrets from each other, and it seems like this is something she would tell me.

i haven't seen her dad in around 4 months....at her house, or while carpooling. so i was wondering what i should do...

should i ask her about it such as "i've noticed that your dad hasnt been around lately...is everything okay?"

or if i should offer to be a friend like "i just want to let you know that if you need someone to talk to, i'm here" (but that would be kind of random, because she hasn't told me anything yet or acted weird about it)

or should i not say anything at all and wait for her to tell me?

i am a concerned friend...

It sounds like you've given it a lot of thought and maybe a combination of your two ideas is best.  Tell her you haven't seen her Dad around in awhile and are wondering if everything is okay, but add that you'll completely understand if she doesn't want to talk about it right now.  That pretty much leaves the ball in her court and lets her decide what to say and when.
