I'm not sure what it is, so i'll ask. What is a D&C?

I've been browsing through the pregnancy questions, and I was just wondering if someone could tell me what a D&C is.

I know it has something to do with miscarriage, but other than that, I'm in the dark.

Sadly, it's basically the procedure someone has after a miscarriage to clean things out and make sure the woman is okay inside. :(

A D&C is a Dilation & Curettage, which is essentially an abortion. It is performed with miscarriages because sometimes your body can not remove the tissue by itself or it takes a long time for it to come out naturally.
