I don't know exactly what to call it, but one of my nails is starting to "layer," almost like there is on section of my nail that isn't connected to the part under it. It starts a little past the tip of my finger. I've tried to file it down as far as I could to see if it would be better if it regrew, but nothing's working. Does anyone have any suggestions (if you're recommending a product, please, nothing too expensive...)? Anything helps. Thanks! =]

  1. girl allll of my nails are like that, it sucks :( but i used this nail repair nailpolish by sally hansen sorry im not sure what its called because i lost it but its works very well, its in a blue bottle! it made my nails very strong and not grow in layers like that

  2. That "layering"-type splitting of the nails is usually due to dryness of the cuticle or nail bed, either from household cleansers, overuse of drying nail products, or dietary insufficiencies.

Don't polish your nails at all for a while (a little Sally Hansen just on the tips will help the raggedness, but not the whole nail), and rehydrate the cuticle and nail bed every day with a nail and cuticle oil containing jojoba oil and vitamin E.      Go to http://www.hooked-on-nails.com/naildisor... and look for "Brittle Nails", about 2/3 of the way down.  There's a good explanation there as to why you need the jojoba oil with the vitamin E.

Keep in mind that it will take a while to see any improvement - you have to grow healthier nails from the base.

    And eat a balanced diet.
