  1. im 5 10 and played against 6 5 men and came away better. u have to outhink them ...dink...hit away orsoft spike into their block

  2. if you r a good jumper then that is were you are supposed to be!!!

  3. I'm 5'7 &I play OH, MB, &RH. All you need is to get low. Hands above your ears and when the other team says middle, middle. Follow that hitters contact with the ball &jump as high as you can. Stay low before the other teams hit. It'll help getting there higher. &When you jump, hands up HIGH. Make sure you touch the ball &tap it back on the other side of the net. Who cares if they're big. Timing their hit &actually accomplishing the block might get you a lot of praise if the girl is bigger than you.

  4. on my volleyball team the tallest girl basically is 5'8 so to me you are tall.  if you are worried still, talk to another girl who played the position before you.  i'm sure they will have tips for you. also i'm only 5'5 but i can jump. no matter how tall you are, if you can jump higher than them in a block, you will do well. also, just be confident. you should feel good that your coach is giving you the opportunity to play a new position. i know from experience, if you are nervous you will play timid and if you do that you won't be the best you can be.

  5. im a middle hitter- freshmen

im only 5'5 but i dont have any tips except jump high and use wide hands

  6. Just work on penetration at the net and your timing with the setter.  Also, it helps to have a big jump.

  7. Your coach wouldn't put you as a middle hitter if he didn't think you were comparable to the other players on the team.  Just work on your vertical, and sometimes its better to be short cuz then you can get points by surprising the other team.

  8. Good for you! I'm a setter but I do know a few things a middle hitter should probably know/be/etc:

A middle hitter must be "on top of" the other team's attacks. You must always be watching the setter and the ball. Rely on your outside hitter and rightside hitter to set up the block so all you have to do is be there to block. You should ask your coach to teach you how to swing block, as it can be more efficient.

As far as offense goes, you need to be able to hit 1's, 2's, shoots (3's), C's, back 1's, back 2's, etc. This also depends on how good your setter is.

You should also stay in shape, as the middle position is always moving and whatnot. I run up and down a hill to work my legs. I also stand with my heels hanging off the edge of a stair and go up and down without bending my knees.

Hope this helps! And good luck!

  9. theres a girl on my jv team thats 4'8.. shes middle and she rocks.. it doesnt matter how tall you are..

  10. im only 5'5 and i started playing middle when i was 5'2.

i do fine, and i block girls who are over 6ft.

try and get some jumping training, and do the drills every day to get more height.

try swing blocks; i get more height that way.

keep your arms up until you land on the ground.

  11. Well, for starters, stop refering yourself to "only" 5 '8 ". I have a belief that your coach put you there for a reason. Go with it, see how it turns out after giving it all you can. I was allways under the impression that a middle was a setter and blocker. It was that way when i played, but it wasn't that organized , just recreational and intramural college play. I've seen teams that were comprised of all Asians who probably had their tallest player at 5' 8" . They won many a game on speed and defense. Thanks for the post young lady and go for it. Volleyball is a GR8 game. I'm sure that you'll do just fine.

  12. I am 5'10" and I was a middle for 2 or 3 years. This year I have been changed to a setter. When you are playing middle, you need to be quick and on top of the other team's hitters and setter. Remember to watch the setter and you need to learn to read her. You are the person who leads the whole team into defense by the direction in which you move for the block. a middle must be able to penetrate the net on a block, so you need to be able to jump very high. One drill to help you jump higher is to go to the net (or if you do it at home go to a wall or doorway) and do 10 of these:

    -get in the blocking position

-squat down and touch the ground with both hands

-jump up and pretend you are blocking

if you do 5 reps about every other day you will see a tremendous gain in your jump.

You can also practice moving quickly along the net at home. Remember your footwork:

(if you are going to the right to block an outside attack):

    -HUGE step with right foot

    -cross with left foot

    -follow up with right leg

    -JUMP

Good luck! Just work hard and persevere and you will do fine.
