I have been on birth control for a week now and am still having a light period. (My period usually lasts 4 days.) Is it going to continue for the whole month? I hope not! I haven't missed any pills or anything. Should I take 2 pills? Would that help it to stop?

  1. Hey.  No, do not take 2 pills. That will give you a hormone over dose & you will feel sick for a couple days (like the side effects of morning sickness).  Anyways, when did you start taking the pill?  You are supposed to start taking the active pills the day your period ends.  OK so here is how it works.  You have your period.  Your period ends.  You take your 1st active pill that night.  The next night, you take the 2nd active pill.  This continues for 3 weeks.  Then, you take your first inactive pill (the placeboo pill- which is simply a fake sugar pill to help you keep track of when you should be back on the active pill).  After a week of placebos, you should take your first active pill the following night.  Hope this helps.  If you still have questions, email me at lidia324@gmail.com

  2. To my knowledge you are supposed to start the pills after the period ends. Though there are 28 pills for the month, you have to stop taking them once the period starts and start the new pack after the period ends.. This is what I have heard from the women who use contraceptive pills. Its better you consult a doctor.

  3. Don't double up your meds first of all, and yes periods will go away eventually. Sometimes it goes on for much longer (spotting) do to varying reasons.

  4. im not sure that birth control completely exterminates your periods.. it is a blood thinner so it just makes your periods lighter.

  5. a week is normal for most women. it is light and it will probably be done in a day or so. and you might get lighter ones in the future. if it continues for a couple of weeks you might have to get on a differnt kind.

  6. Dont take 2 pills, just take them like you're prescribed.  You just started taking them and this is normal for some people.  If it continues though, talk to your doctor about it.
