I'm on higher rate DLA - how do I get a free provisional liscense? (UK question)?

I receive the higher mobility part of DLA and I heard that I could get a free provisional license? When I got the forms to apply with online I ticked the DLA part, but they still asked me to pay £50.

How do I get the free provisional license? Or have I just been told the wrong thing?

Thanks!

  1. Hi, as far as I am aware, a first provisional driving licence for a car costs £50.00 for everyone - regardless of whether you have a disability or not.

The section on the application form that asks about "disabilities" is there so that the DVLA know whether you have a medical condition that may affect your ability to drive (http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/Dri...

Under the Motability Scheme, you may be able to get help with the cost of driving lessons though (http://www.motability.co.uk/main.cfm?typ...
