Is it possible that the hotel server is not allowing Pal and is there only way round the problem?

Many thanks.

  1. Yes its possible that the hotel wireless network has barred certain websites.

If that is the case then the only around it is to change the hotels wireless configuration which you will not have access to -  or use another wireless network like a cafe somewhere else.

  2. Often hotels, hotspots, and schools/workplaces will restrict types of internet access by blocking outbound ports.  The most commonly blocked is SMTP (outgoing email) on the default port (25) but it can be as extreme as only allowing web-access (HTTP port 80) like my college does.

The best solution is to get your own internet-access via something like a cellular modem (wireless broadband).  Some cellphones can do this too with special cables/software.
