Question:

I'm painting my house..?

On September 1st, I move into my first house. It's got two bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and a huge gameroom with a pool table. I painted the livingroom a goldenrod color, because it's a slightly small house and not a lot of light tavels through. The main wall in the living room runs past the hallway to the 2 bedrooms and into the kitchen. I painted that wall yellow, but i cant decide on something. Should I leave the far wall white or should i just paint it all yellow? I'm afraid that there will be too much of one color, but i don't want to try to mix and match. Also, what colors would look good in a yellow room? I heard that red and blue would look nice against the yellow...is this true? Thanks for all the help in advance!

  1. Contrasting colors look nice, and complimentary colors look nice, so it's really up to you.

We repainted our whole home recently after our remodel and have put some very bold colors in our home and have used neutral colors in our burgundy living room (black, beige furniture and accessories), purple floor mats in our green kitchen, green towels, mats and shower curtains in our beige bathroom, red curtains and bed accessories in our son's slate blue/gray bedroom, and brown bedroom accessories in our light and dark blue bedroom (we painted one wall darker "federal"  blue and the other 3 walls light blue).

So, with goldenrod livingroom I might suggest a chocolate brown or deep blue theme with your furniture and curtains/carpet.  Yellow looks nice with white, blue, green.  The nice thing about paint is that it's easy and not very expensive to change.

  2. green and yellow match also

  3. I have one room in my house that's pale yellow with brick red trim. It's a very traditional look and it looks great when the setting sun shines in.

One friend of mine as their game room in a similar light yellow offset by a little pastel green.

Another friend has his kitchen in a bright sunflower yellow with antique white cabinets and trim.

I like yellow over white because it's bright but more interesting to look at. But get some color samples at the paint store and try out a number of different combinations. Since the house has limited natural light you don't want the walls to be a dark color so stick with pastels and possibly earth tones. Also if you paint everything all one color it sometimes makes small interior spaces look larger, I wouldn't be afraid to go all yellow.

  4. when re-decorating home, bedroom or any other room, always try to choose colors according to feng shui. in this case you will activate powers of 5 elements (water, earth, metal, wood and fire) and support all your lucky "areas" - this will attract love, romance, wealth, money, prosperity, luck etc etc
