Question:

I'm painting my room soon--ideas?

I am painting my room very soon; I may start the process as soon as Wednesday (I have a few days to choose a color scheme, though; I hear it starts with a bunch of sanding and spackling and primer). I don't know what kind of color scheme I want. Here are a few ideas I had:

--white with black trim (or another high-contrast combination--ideas?), and I would paint sheet music on the walls (I am a composer, so it seems only natural). Maybe there would be a mural on one of the slanted ceilings (my room is in the attic), which I will decide later.

--a scheme to match my comforter (which will be different, depending on the bed I use, but if I use the comforter I plan to, that would mean wine-red or orange walls with tan/khaki trim)

--burgundy or royal purple with gold trim

--not sure of the appropriate colors, but a theatre theme (the important detail, then, would be making red velvet curtains with gold fringe; what color should the room be with that, and what other details could I add?)

--not sure of much of anything with this, but something to evoke a very traditional, sophisticated mood (either 19th century France, or an English tea room)

What do you think?

By the way, I'm 20, and in college (but I live on-campus and plan to stay there as long as possible); I want to make my room a sort of escape for me. I've never really liked being in my room since I moved into this house, and especially after the house caught fire while I was in college (thus turning the room into a haphazard storage facility), I have taken to sleeping on the living room couch. I want to make my room somewhere I can look forward to being.

  1. You should go with warm colors....browns and olives

  2. play around with the Sherwin Williams color visualizer to find colors that you like. It is the best paint visualizer on the web, imho. I like how their color palette is laid out, I like that you can search by color family & color name, the "painted" rooms look the most realistic, and it suggests coordinating color schemes. You can literally spend hours:

I like the idea of purple with gold trim, but I would use a muted purple like "sensuous gray" (# 7081) rather than a royal. It would be more relaxing.

You can also take a photo of your house & upload it to the makeover gallery on this website:

    http://www.roomvues.com/

You can get color suggestions & they'll photoshop them onto your room so that you can get an idea of what it will look like.

  3. keep the floors how they are and paint the room burgundy or royal purple with gold trim.  sounds gorgeous!

  4. i didn't read all that cause its to long haha (sorry) but i would put zebra wallpaper  and make it be all funky!

  5. Your theater idea sounds nice, you could do the purple and gold it would be really nice, but you might consider painting an almost champagne color instead...sort of like this

the purple might look a litltle more young. And if you

went with the champagne color then a black comforter with gold or champagne colored pillows would look more sophisticated. you could also get a picture of marylin monroe or audrey hepburn and hang it up...OR  vinyl sticker of the smile now cry later sign would definetly fit into the theme. Just my opinion goodluck!

  6. i think you should visit homedepot or lowes

and pick up a magazine, near the checkout counter

or in the book rack, you dont' have to buy it, read it

look over everything on paint and decortation and junk

you[lll find things you want to do
