What's all this sh*t I'm hearing about HD. So the picture is 1% better, that doesn't mean everyone should get HD TVs. In a few years they will come out with something better than that anyway. And why does everyone have to switch to HD next year? The companies just want more money. They make excuses that its to fight terrorism but that's bullsh*t. They just need to say "terrorists" and everyone coperates. Its just like 30 years ago when they said "communists". Now everyone includeing low-budget families need to buy converter boxes to watch TV when before it was free. They are just bleeding the world dry for money.

  1. If you have seen a program in HD you wont say it is 1% better. I agree about the whole terrorist thing. We as citizens are losing our constitutional rights in the name of fighting terrorism, but it has nothing to do with the switch to digital TV. I have a coupon from the govt that allows me to buy a converter box at $40 off and the box only cost $60. This is freeing up wasted airwaves. People have been fighting the gov't for years to free up airwaves for the people to use, not corporations. The switch to digital will free up a lot for the people to use. The next smart inventors are about to become known now for what the common person can do with this freedom. You have good points but are wasting them on bad information. I hope you can find something you believe strongly about and focus your intentions on that. Good Luck!

  2. Of course the corporations want more money.  Who doesn't?  New technology, innovations, etc. bring new products to the marketplace and people buy them.  We do live in a quasi-capitalist society.

Sometimes "new and improved" is just marketing.  How many times can they improve detergent to clean your clothes?  However, you see the words all the time on various brands.

In this case, HD can provide a noticeable improvement in picture quality over SD.  The problem is that this improvement can vary depending on the source material.  It depends on how well the source has been converted to HD, or if it was shot originally in HD.

The conversion to Digital that will take place early in 2009 is not exactly the same thing as HD.  And this absolutely has nothing to do with the war on terror.

  3. try again, you might get it right.

    1) the mandate is NOT to go to HD.

    2) the industry fought the FCC and lost.

    3) everyone had to get new TV's to watch Color TV

    4) everyone had to get a new TV to watch channel 13 thru 83

    5) everyone had to get a new TV to watch cable TV without a converter box.

    6) the FCC wanted to shift to digital to free up spectrum that can be used for public safety or auctioned to the highest bidder.

  4. wierd huh

  5. You are an idiot and you have most all of your facts wrong.  The changeover is to DIGITAL not HD.  Not everyone will need to buy converter boxes.  Only those people that receive their signal with an antenna will need a box (and the gov't is providing coupons for these boxes).  This has nothing to do with terrorism.  The analog frequencies are being freed up for use with more technology.  The one thing you are correct about is that something newer will come along in a few years.  So. instead of ranting about something you aren't very well informed on, you should get the real facts first.

  6. Bravo!!!
