I'm planing to visit Hanoi ?

Hi everyone, i'm planning to visit Hanoi in May . This would be my 1st visit there. Can u please tell me what are the nice places thats not to be missed out. Thank you

Hanoi is a very beautiful city.  It is full of french colonial architecture and boulevards.  Depending on which hotel you stay at I would recommend you take a full one day tour just to get a sense of the city.  The 2 or 3 day tour of halong bay is not to be missed because it is one of the most spectacular sights to see in the world.  Very romantic for two people. One Caveat -  Do not sleep in the Boat!  They are not that comfortable.  Please note that most of these tours throw in a nice hotel stay with breakfast.  And the resort city they dock at is like a mini-French Riviera paradise.   Enjoy your stay.

these are the must things to do:

in hanoi itself, stay at the old quarter and explore the place, visit some temples there, wet market, dong xuan markets, browse around souvenir lane, ho kaem lake, water puppet show, prison musem, literature temple, ho chi minh mosuleum, ethnology museum, history museum, art galery, presidential palace. (this easily take you 2 - 3 days)

then go on day tours to hoa lu (1 full day), perfume pagoda (1 full day), tam coc (1 full day). i suggest you take the 2 day tour of halong bay where you will experience sleeping in a junk and explore nature around halong bay itself. you can easily buy these tours from the travel agents in hanoi.

if you have more time, then proceed to sapa (2 days 2 nites would be enough). situated on the highland, it's cool and refreshing. you will see the untouched of vietnam, tribal people living as they are. you get to visit their villages and houses. well worth the journey.
