  1. First admit that the party is for you, not the 1 year old. I doubt if the child will have any memories of it. Why not put that wasted money into a savings account instead of using it for your ego.

  2. Oriental Trading Co. has a website with lots of inexpensive decorations and favors, especially for luaus.... the grass skirts for the tables are especially cute......   Don't forget to take a movie!  I showed the movie of MY first birthday at my daughters' first birthdays, and they showed it at the first birthdays for my grandkids!  A first birthday is a special occasion and anyone who says you shouldn't have a party obviously isn't a parent:) .....   If there will be older kids, consider a pinata for them...  Go to a $1 store and buy favors ... FOOD:  Tropical fruit salad ...  coleslaw (add some drained crushed pineapple & macadamia nuts) ....  BBQ pork of some sort (since I doubt you can bury a whole pig and roast it in your backyard - lol) ...  Coconut cake

  3. go to Paper Warehouse/ Party America. They will have everything you need, especially this time of year.

  4. Think simple and think about who is coming. Fruit ca-bobs were a favorite at my last Hawaiian party.

  5. Having a theme party for a 1 year old is crazy. Put the money in a savings bond instead.

  6. Are you familiar Oriental trading catalog? It's a catalog with a lot of Hawaiian stuff you can buy. It has lots of cool decorations, party favors, costumes, and candy.
