I'm planning a surprise party for my boyfriend. I have plenty of time, 2 months. We live together, so his best friend is going to take him somewhere, that way he is not home. and i can decorate and get ready. Im expecting between 15 and 20 people. We are NOT going to be serving alcohol, we dont drink and there will be minors at the party. I need some ideas about some food for the party. I know the usual, Chips, dip pizza and such, but looking for something different. Also decorations, - dont want a theme, but maybe certain colors? not sure, also, i need ideas for how to decorate the apartment. And the cake, i want something different- i dont want this party to look cheap, or like it was put together at the last minute...any ideas? (DON'T SEND ME ANY ANSWERS REGUARDING ANYTHING WITH s*x OR ALCOHOL)) Thanks for the help~:-)

  1. well I think that what you should do is try to do something with whatever he is into. And maybe a theme because that is usually a good idea for a surprise party. Well that's all I can think of so I hoped that I helped you out.

  2. What about cup cakes, I do not know about this one-some soup. How about soda and/or tea, stawberrys, razzberrys and blueberrys. That`s all I got.

  3. DECORATIONS:

I just had a party for my husband last weekend and I went to a party store and got a ton of balloons (mylar and latex).  I had four balloon bouquets that sat on the floor and were tall (close to the ceiling) they looked very festive and added a ton of color and helped fill up space.  The party store also had alot of other decorations available if you want to do paper plates, napkins, cups, streamers, etc.  If you are doing a little more elegant theme I would still do the balloons but do latex and have one or two colors.  Then I would go to Sam's Club, Costco, Trader Joe's or the Grocery store and get a few bunches of flowers.  Break the flowers up into some smaller vases and have them scattered through out the party area.  You can buy vases at a craft supply store, and while your there get a ton of little candle holders and tealights and put candles all over (keep them up high so the kids don't get into them).  Also, if you have some large clear glass bowls and large crystal or clear glass vases you could have bowls and/or vases of one kind of fruit that goes with your color scheme, if green works then have limes, if yellow then lemons, etc.  This looks really elegant and colorful.  And it's not very expensive.

    FOOD:

You could do 3 types of pasta salad such as tuna pasta salad, tortellini pesto pasta salad, and italian vegetable pasta salad or whatever you friends and family would like, serve these with fresh fruit and vegetable platter.

Or you could do a mini pizza buffet.  Get small premade pizza crusts, sauce, cheese and all the fixins and let people make their own pizzas.

    Or do a taco bar.

Or a baked potato bar with traditional and more creative topping ideas.

Or grill burgers and bratwurst and have potato salad, coleslaw, lettuce salad, fresh fruit and some various chips and dip.

Or have lasagna (you could even do one red lasagna and one white lasagna) garlic bread and salad.

For the cake I would have something nice made at a bakery in your hubbies favorite flavor.  Or you could do a small cake and have other desserts too so you have a dessert buffet.

Non alcoholic beverage idea: go to epicurious.com and they have tons of punch and drink ideas that are non-alcoholic.  A pretty serving idea is to have a large clear-glass container with a spigot on the front, put in the punch, slice up all different kinds of citrus fruit and float it in the punch, then add ice.  So pretty, everyone will rave about it.

Are you coffee people?  Have a coffee bar with different syrups, cream and sugar.

    Good luck, have fun!!!!!!!!!
