I'm planning a trip that will be approximately 750 miles round trip. My car gets 23 MPG city and 32 MPG highway. Most of the trip will be highway. The current price of gas is about $4 a gallon. How much would my total trip cost? And, how did you figure it?

  1. 750 / 32 = 23.4375 gallon (say 23.5 gal).

    23.5 gal * 4  = $94

That is for the highway miles.

    Now for the street driving.

    750 / 23 = 32.6 gallons.

    32.6 * 4 = $130.4

Given your driving is mostly hwy, it will be closer to $94 (but slight more depending on how much street you are doing).

    Good Luck...

P.S.  Did i just do your home work?

  2. Does your car ACTUALLY get 32 highway by your own personal testing?  Or is that what the EPA says (or said a long time ago)?

Because #1, EPA numbers used to be wildly wrong.  This year they went back and fixed their numbers so you may need to re-check. http://www.fueleconomy.gov/f*g/findacar....

#2 they're still not quite accurate.  Only you can tell by measuring your own economy.  But based on what you have said, 750 miles/32mpg = 23.44 gallons = $93.75
