The party will take place in my home town "New Orleans" on 14 June 08 but I can't find a venue that will allow kids but also allows acohol to be served. I'm also looking for some hot urban 80's closes, shoes, accessories, ect. I'm going for the Salt and Pepper; Exscape, SWV look. Any ideas will be much appriciated. Thanks :-)

  1. rent a hall and decorate it like a club if you cant find any places. try going through the phone book and ask every place that serves alcohol if you can rent the place out and let the kids come too. if you rent a hall that has a bar area then you can assign a family memebr to be "the bartender". as for the costumes bif hair is an obvious must. bright colors were big in the eighties along with scrunchies. In the 80s, trousers got tapered and stylish bright colors took the place of drab grays and basic sweats. We accessorized with overblown graphics and ankle-high boots and sneakers. Thanks to the arrival of MTV, '80s fashion was defined by music. Inspired by pop stars like Duran Duran and Wham, guys wore frilly shirts, superskinny ties and huge op-art belts. '80s chicks emulated their musical idols with Bananarama-style overalls, Pat Benatar-esque headbands and Madonna's layered mesh-and-lace ensembles.

And don't forget the makeup, guys: From the new romantics to the punk rockers, all the gnarliest dudes sported eyeliner, lipstick, glittery eye shadow and way too much mousse in their hair, just like their girlfriends. Want more '80s party costumes? '80s ladies also sported leg warmers, rubber bracelets and sideways ponytails, while guys channeled Miami Vice-era Don Johnson with pastel-hued suits.

games: have a lip-synch contest to beloved '80s songs, or put on Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and have a contest to see who can do the best moonwalk. If you have a video game system, buy some of the classic '80s video games like PacMan, Frogger, Donkey Kong and Asteroids — you can also find versions of these games online and play them on your computer. Plus, pay homage to the classic board game Trivial Pursuit, which launched in 1982, by splitting up your guests into teams to answer questions about random factoids and earn those little pie wedges.Yuppies and Valley girls made sushi big in the '80s, as well as appetizers like artichoke dip served in a bread bowl. Kid-friendly treats like Rice Crispie treats and fluffernutter sandwiches make great snacks for an '80s party, and you can celebrate the frozen yogurt fad with a fro-yo cake. Finally, no '80s party guide is complete without mentioning classic candy like Nerds, Fun Dip, Pop Rocks, Ring Pops and Charleston Chews.

  2. bangles thick, crimp ur hair, tights (coloured) under a skirt, and lots of bright make up , Im thinking of having an  80s bday party for my 30th this year but in our back yard its either that or cowboys and cowgirls lol... Good Luck

  3. Do a Google search for images and songs.

  4. I don't know of any places in New Orleans, but I do have a few ideas about the 80's themed party.

    1. Ask the guys to wear the tight rolled jeans, polo shirts with their collars upturned, and pennyloafers with no socks!(takes me back!)

    2. Do you remember the bangle bracelets? Very colorful, and loads of them! Also, the really bright neon colored earrings, necklaces, etc.(they are coming back in style!!YEA!)

    3. I know it sounds 50ish, but we wore poodle skirts with socks and saddle shoes during this period too.

    4. Don't forget about the Chuck Taylors with 3 pairs of socks!

    5. Bright colored shirts that fall off the shoulder like in Flash Dance.

    6. The Michael Jackson one glove action..'nuf said.

    7. Make sure that the girls wear their hair really big and have their bangs REALLY high and wear a headband that is wider than a mac truck!

This is all I can take right now b/c I feel like going out and buy some cassette tapes to dub music off the radio!!!LOL

    HAVE FUN!

Wish I could come and just see the festivities!:(
