I'm planning for a working holiday in the UK. Where to go?

I'm going to the UK starting in spring 2009 for a working holiday. I would like to know what your suggestions are for locations.

My main decision makers/breakers:

Cost of living, accessibility to budget airlines, and ability to find work (where it's easy to find clerical/office style work, preferably), accessibility to public transit.

Any input at all will be GREATLY appreciated! Thanks!

  1. You don't actually say where you are from and there are many countries out there whose citizens are NOT eligible to come to the UK for a working holiday.  If you haven't done so already, you will find all the information about coming here on a working holiday permit at this link...

  2. usually the easiest place to find work is London, but it's also the most expensive place to live ... the cost of living is less in other cities, such as Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Glasgow ... I find it difficult to recommend any one place above another because there's so much personal choice involved

UK is not that big a place so you're never that far away from a major international airport and within cities and large towns public transport is always OK, it's the more rural areas where you'll have problems

if you want to get office work you will need to find an agency as the easiest way is to do temp work and hopefully work your way into either a permanent or a long-term temp position ... there are many agencies such as Reed, Office Angels etc ... I'd suggest you do some internet searches around agencies, and maybe even try to get registered with one or more of them before you come
