I've heard of criminals imposed at federalies, corrupt cops, drunk drivers on remote roads... all sorts of bad stuff.

  1. It's a great trip and you shouldn't have any problems.  Make sure you have car insurance and a visa for you and anyone else going with you.  Read a travel guide of things to see and do on your way down (Lonely Planet).  If possible stop and go out and see the whales.  See the church built by Eiffel, the same guy who built the Eiffel Tower.  You'll go through some checkpoints but these are mostly close to the border. Show them your visa and the car permit and you won't have any problems.  Enjoy, and don't forget to stop and see the boojum trees.

  2. You will be fine. I drove to Rocky point Mexico last year and the people I meet on the way were nice. Don't worry have fun.

  3. Are you driving alone?  That seems absurd.  Just google to see all of the crimes against tourists in Tijuana and Cabo....maybe you will be lucky, but better to fly....

  4. Many will tell you it's fine, others will say don't do it.

You are an attractive woman and that can attract trouble....if you go for it and something terible happens you will regret not doing the smart thing....and that's taking care of you. Besides, save the gas and hastle of driving, and arrive and return whole. You can still have a great adventure. Be safe.

  5. I've heard that if your car breaks down just ditch the car.

  6. I guess you haven't heard of the shootings and if you go, watch out for the cops. Being american means you have money and you will have to pay and pay to get out of jail, if you CAN get out. Happy motoring.
