Our income is too much to qualify for financial aid and i don't understand the deductables or co-pay stuff in the insurance qoutes. Someone told me when you get medical insurance you have to wait a year before you can get your pregnancy covered??

  1. I'm not sure about ALL insurance plans but that was true in my case - we have a good Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance plan, but in order to get the upgrade to cover maternity it was like $200 extra a month PLUS you had to be on that plan for 12 months before even getting pregnant. So that ended up being an extra $2400 for 12 months that you couldn't even TRY to get pregnant, plus $1800 for the 9 months that you WOULD BE pregnant, plus however much time it took to become pregnant - who knows how long that could take.

In the end we decided just to stay on our normal plan and pay our doctor out of pocket - he said they can make cash deals because a lot of people choose to do this. It will probably even end up being cheaper this way!

    Good luck!

  2. If you are planning on getting a personal ins. policy you would have to get a maternity rider which is really expensive and you have to wait nine months before they will cover anything.
