In my town, we don't have a daycare center, or anything like a little baby gymboree. I was hoping to open a daycare center, but I thought that a baby gym would be more helpful, and I wouldn't have to take care of the kids myself. I was wondering what kind of degree you'd need for something like that, or if you'd even need a degree.Any advice?

  1. Here's where you can start your search.

One of the owner's of our local one was a pediatric occupational therapist. She was great working with Level I (0-6 mo.) and Level II (6-10 mo.).

But many of their teachers are not specifically trained for childhood education:

There was the art teacher with an art degree (no child experience pre se).

The gym teacher with a marketing degree but experience as a college cheerleader and very outgoing personality...who I love to blame every time I catch my child climbing or jumping off something ;) She was fantastic with Level III (10-16 mo.) and Level IV (16-22 mo.)  With a marketing degree she is also a leader/supervisor in the franchise.

The music teacher with no degree or prior child training, but had a outstanding voice and loved working with children.

They've had others, but these are the ones I know some background about.

  2. Early Childhood Education degree or Physical Education would be appropriate for person(s) actually working with children.  Good business skills through education or experience for the administrator.
