I'm planning on visiting Rome during Holy Week/Easter...?

Will most stores/buildings/museums be open on the days preceeding and following Easter? Thanks!

Yes, everything will be open before and after Easter.  On Easter Sunday, NOTHING will be open, however.  People will be out and about, eating gelato and walking.  It will be a nice day for people watching.

You can also get tickets to attend the Papal Easter Mass.  Try www.vaticancitytours.com to request tickets.  They're not cheap, but when else do you get to see the Pope?

Before, yes. The day after Easter is also a holiday in Italy and most everything will be closed. However, museums are sometimes open even on holidays. You'll just have to check on the ones you're interested in when you get there.

If you can avoid going there at that time do so. It is the most beautiful place i have ever been and only got back to the UK last night. There is a but...... and that is two things The amount tourists at the attractions there is overwhelming.Too much and they really started to become a pain.

The second is the amount of guys selling stuff in the streets and they dont take no for an answer especially around the tourist attractions.  (Bearing in mind i went mid Feb) off season.

To answer your question i do know that the Vatican museum and sistine Chapel is closed on Sundays.

I've never been there, but, if those places aren't available, you can always site-see, and of course, go to church. Have a great time!

Is best to ask a travel agent. Holy week in predominantly Catholic countries can mean just about everything is closed that week, especially government offices..
