  1. Start planning NOW!!!  I am getting married in Nov. and we got engaged in Feb.  If you are planning it yourself and not getting a planner I suggest getting all these things listed above together a.s.a.p.  The Knot.com saved my life too!  It's been the biggest help and it includes the finest of details!!  Good luck and congrats to you both!

  2. Start planning around fall :) Congrats!

  3. You do have a lot of time to plan.

But, a wedding requires long, thoughtful planning.

I think you need the wedding you've always wanted.

    Make it happen!

  4. First: make a budget.

Start researching ceremony and reception locations. The popular ones often book out months to years in advance so book ahead as early as possible.

Often they'll also guide you to what else you need to start planning- number of guests, type of ceremony (religious or civil) and type of reception (sit down meal, buffet, cocktail), etc.

Think about what style of wedding dress you want and start trying on a few- make sure to order in plenty of time to allow for alterations, etc.

Think about your bridal party- bridesmaids and groomsmen- but don't rush the decision! There are lots of people on Y! answers regretting the decisions that they've made about their bridal party.

    Also start researching honeymoon destinations.

  5. Just start with a guest list, start researching honeymoon locations, where you want to get married (church or civil), select rings, dress, reception venue plus catering. That's about it really. Nearer the time think about the wording of your vows, music, flowers etc.

  7. Sign up for The Knot. I swear, the checklist saved my life when I was planning my wedding. You could also buy a couple wedding books. And always have a notebook with you to jot down ideas. Stay as organized as possible with a wedding binder. Also, come up with a game plan, and then go about calling vendors. Be sure to ask at the end if they have any suggestions for another great vendor, i.e. ask the florist if she knows of any good bakeries for wedding cakes, etc. And congrats! Don't forget to enjoy this and not get too caught up in the details. Have fun and good luck!
