I'm planning to go horseriding just for fun - not learning - any tips?

Can I still enjoy horse riding without having any lessons?

Yes you can still have fun but I would recommend a few lessons to get the basics about your tack and a bit of horse sense!!  You want it to be safe and enjoyable for you and the horse.

Of course you can enjoy riding without lessons.  You don't have to look perfect on a horse to enjoy it.  People go trail riding through the woods and stuff like that every day.  Or go to dude ranches for fun.

As for tips, just remember to sit back and keep your heels down.  Walking is really easy.  Trotting is bouncy, but the more you sit back, the easier it will be.  Cantering feels like a rocking horse... it's really comfortable, but it's kinda fast... again, just sit back.  And try to keep your legs long underneath you... don't bend your knee too much, point your toes up and heels down.

The answer before me makes a good point: wear jeans, or at least long pants... the leather of the saddle rubbing against your bare legs wouldn't feel good at all, so no shorts!  And you should have a hardsole shoe with a heel (not a big heel, just a half inch is enough)... that'll help your foot not go into the stirrup too far.

I've only experienced the horse walking and sitting on its back

personally i felt pity for the animal...i'm a heavy chap.

I will make you tired soon...thats all i can say and no...i didnt find it entertaining.

Yes you can have fun. Where sturdy shoes. Tennis shoes are fine. Don't wear shorts. When on the horse, sit in a relaxed position and don't pull back on the reins unless you want to stop. Keep you legs close the the horse and if you want the horse to move, kind of squeeze your legs together on the horse. Let the horse know you are the boss, by not being afraid. If you want the horse to go right, gently pull back on the right rein, go left, pull back on the left rein. Relax and have a good ride.

bounce with the horse, it's called posting.

And don't be scared, horses can sense that and will attack you when you sleep, they have large talons and lots of teeth.

Yes you can have fun. Wear comfortable clothes and definitely DON'T wear jeans. just sit with the horse and sit with his movement. Enjoy it :D
