Question:

I'm planning to go to Nepal. To what extent would sightseeing/trecking be limited right now due to monsoon?

I'm in India right now and I'm planning to go to the Himalaya. I could either go to Leh, Ladakh, India or Kathmandu, Nepal.

I just have 4 days to spend and therefore would like to get the maximum out of it.

As of now I am more interested in Kathmandu (mainly cultural reasons) but I fear that the monsoon would hinder my travel or sightseeing experience there so I'm actually thinking of going to Ladakh/Leh to have a sure bet on the weather.

Can someone tell me to what extent sightseeing/trecking will be limited right now in Nepal due to the weather? (How much rain is there? When does it rain (at night/during day) Is it all foggy/cloudy? etc.)

Issues such as price of flights/duration of travel to get there don't matter.

  1. I don't know. Try telling me in shorter words cause I hate reading : )

  2. I'd also worry about the Maoist insurgency. I'm glad I visited Nepal befoe they were around.

  3. You won't be doing anything for the first day, because you'll need get used to the altitude.  Take you altitude-sickness pills, and drink plenty of water.  Go see a sky burial!

  4. well it does get pretty rainy n other days the clouds cover the sky...trekkin is probably not so much fun in the rain n the clouds will block all the mountains views...but it is certtain tht after 2 or 3 days the sun will shine n everythin will look more beautiful then if u had seen it with out the rain n the clouds

  5. Forget monsoon, there is also civil war, fighting and bad news for americans, don't go.

  6. If you're planning for a serious trek, then forget it because of plenty of rain and clouds and mist and whatnot at this time. But if you have just four days, I suggest you go to Kathmandu where it is mild and wonderful summer these days. Besides, there is a hill station called 'Nagarkot' very near to the city where you can stay the night over to view sunrise early in the morning. You can also have lite trekking around the Kathmandu valley itself.
