I've tried to look online, but I can only find already-made rock fountains, and stores like home depot don't carry them...

  1. Outside, on the ground.... I mean really.  You want to spend money for rocks???

  2. Check in your phone book under "landscape supplies" and look for a supplier that deals with stone products - pavers, driveway gravel, wall stone, etc.

Call them & let them know what you are looking for, and ask about their selection.

If you're thinking of making a fountain out of multiple rocks piled up, then you may want to look at smooth "river rocks" or even small pieces of "wall stone" for a jagged look. The landscape stone supplier will even have the proper adhesive to glue it all together.

If you're thinking of one bigger rock, with water coming out of it, go with "lava rock" or even better "feather rock" because it's easy to drill for the pump tubing, and is not very heavy.

  3. Check a landscaping company if you are looking for larger rocks.  If they don't have them they can tell you where to get them.

  4. You may try your phone book and look under aggregates, stone mason or landscaping. River rocks is usually what most people use because of their smooth surfaces.

  5. I would try to find them in any type of running water channel.... such as  a brook or stream or creek in your area. Also along the shores of large lakes or even in ocean type inlets. The reason being is that rocks from those places will be nice and round. The moving water that they sit in smooths them out and you may be able to find some nice color ones there too. This will allow your water to flow nicely too. These rocks also do interesting things to the light that reflects off them.

  6. hobby lobby, michaels.

  7. go out in the hills and river beds and find them yourself that's more fun and the rocks are specially selected by you for their beauty that attracted you to them.
