I'm planning to play in the poker room in Jackson Rancheria, California tomorrow (for the first time), can someone explain to me how regular casino poker tournaments work? From registering and to claiming the prize?

I'm playing the 25$, 3000 chips buy in tournament.

  1. Generally you go in, ask to register.  You pay the cashier in the poker room the buy in and get some kind of token or card to prove you paid.

This card will usually have your seat assignment on it.  Like table 8, seat 5.  So you locate table eight and sit in seat five when they announce the game is about to start.  Try not to look completely lame when looking for a seat or the players will know you are a noob!

Remember that seat five and six are opposite the dealer, one is to his left etc.  The more uncertain you seem, the more people will think you are a fish.

Take your seat, play poker, and if you make the money they will generally give you some kind of ticket which you take back to the cashier for your prize.

Good luck!  Remember at those stakes, you won't be the only newbie.  Remember too that most tournaments have a nice slow blind structure.  You can sit back and relax and hardly play a hand for an hour or two and still win.  Most tournaments are a marathon, not a sprint.  Relax, play good cards.  Watch your position.

  2. The best advice was already give. Be patient, play around !5-2 percent of the hands. I play right aroung 20 maybe a little less. Dont worry about looking new as someone stated earlier. You are new,  so your gonna look new. What matters is your play at the table. Every so ofter you get a break. Every hour or so. Thats awsome that you were alel to find a $25 tourny. Also when you are in the bublble( portion where you are about to be in the money) people tend to play real tight so you can win alot of pots with smart raises and bets. Good luck bro, live tourny are a whole new world compared to online poker.

  3. I haven't played at Jackson's poker room yet.  But normally, you have to go to a person to register for the tournament and buy in.  They will give you a seat card and that is your assigned seat for the tournament.  The dealer will control the table.  To begin with, you either draw for the dealer button or the dealer will lay out a card in front of each seat to determine who gets the dealer button.  The button rotates around the table.  You have a small blind and a big blind and that follows the button as well around the table.  Cards get dealt, and you can fold or bet or raise.  After the flop gets dealt, then you can check or bet or raise, and then the turn card is dealt.  After that it is check or bet or raise, and the the river card is dealt.  Again, you have the option to check, bet or raise and whoever is left is the hand shows down the cards to see who wins the hand.  If you are unsure, let the dealer know and he or she will guide you through.  Good luck!

  4. Lucky you!

I wanna play in a casino!

    One tip for the road:

Do not try any moves before you got your table image going for you!
