  1. Canada is a big country and the cost of living can vary quite substantially from place to place. The differences aren't so much between cities as between urban (city) and rural (not city) areas. A loaf of bread that costs $1.50 in a city can cost $2.99 at a rural shop. However, more northern cities, such as Yellowknife or Iqaluit have very high prices for food just because it costs so much to ship things there.

You really need to provide more specific information.

  2. Since your basic needs are already paid, the very minimum would be $50CAD per week, but $100 CAD might be safer.

Where in Canada? Public transportation passes vary according to the city or region.

As for laundry, basically your host family will let you do your washing at home unless it's stated otherwise.

Also, contact your host family to give you a more accurate estimate on your expenses and to help you with whatever questions you may have.

Many homestay programs include lunch (brown bag). And depending on your age, they might even pay for transportation if they cannot drive you to school. Check all details with the school you're attending.

Some cities are much more expensive than others.

  3. I know Toronto quite well, but can't answer your question without more information.  Will you be alone?  Toronto is a huge city so where will you be studying compared to where you will be living?  Check out the various Toronto websites for information on transportation, etc.  Have you asked the school where you will be studying to help you?  Good luck!!
