Im a South African citizen on a South African Passport. My wife is a Bulgarian citizen on a Bulgarian passport.

We plan to travel around UK and Europe for a year, starting in January 2009. We want to start in the UK. Do I need a visa to stay in the UK longer than 6 months, and what if I want to do a bit of working, what then?

Thanks

  1. Go to the UK Visa Homepage at:

    http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/

and that will tell you if you need a Visa.

  2. hallo,

you both need to apply for visa.

for this purpose it's required to get in touch with the embassy.

    use these links.

  3. As a South African passport holder, you will need a visa if you want to stay longer than 6 months, and if you want to work (though if you have British ancestry in the last couple of generations you may qualify for a "working holiday" visa which allows you to work for up to one year in a 2-year period); your wife is an EU citizen and does not need a visa, though there are still some restrictions on Bulgarians and Romanians working here, as they are  the most recent accession states.
